As of today, Storehouse WV has provided products to over 200
organizations touching West Virginians in at least 31 counties and we
have given away in excess of $1.5 million worth of product. We have been
able to touch every
segment of society through the many groups and
programs with whom we work, such as: foster care programs, day cares,
special needs programs, gang intervention groups, food pantries, prison
ministries, head start programs, homeless shelters, churches, after
school programs, building programs, Girl Scouts, community centers,
American Cancer Society, 4-H Foundation, low income housing resident
associations, AmeriCorps and Vista programs. Through these groups we
have reached thousands of our fellow West Virginians and helped to
improve their situation, in many different ways.
Product donations continue to arrive from multiple sources and we are
always on the look out for additional new consumer goods. If you own or
work at a manufacturer or retailer who has excess inventory please
consider working with Storehouse WV. Beyond the intrinsic value of
improving the lives of others here in West Virginia, there are financial
benefits available to your company for helping t
hose in need. Normally a
donor may deduct the full fair market value (FMV) of a gift to a public
charity but to encourage corporations to make donations of food,
medicine, clothing, supplies, etc., to charities that serve the needy,
the ill, or minor children, a special rule effectively doubles the
maximum available tax benefit by providing a deduction of up to twice
the donor’s basis in the property. The Internal Revenue Code for this
special benefit is described in Section 170(e)(3). Donations to
Storehouse West VirginiaTM may allow you to claim this
credit and we would be happy to supply you with more information on this
benefit.
Storehouse WV has also received help from some great West Virginia
companies. Jefferd’s Corporation has supplied us with a Fork Lift, which
has effectively doubled our storage space. Also, Aaron’s Products has graciously provided BiWV with a copier. Additionally, we have received
help, when needed, from Bosley Rental and Supply and
MH Equipment. We
are very grateful for their help.
The plan for our next area of expansion is to purchase a 24’ box truck,
which will allow us to deliver items to remote areas of the state and to
pick up donated items. Please see the related article in this newsletter
for more information about this exciting development.
If you are aware of churches or non-profit organizations that could
benefit from the items in the Storehouse please have them contact John
deBlecourt. Thanks to all the organizations who have partnered with us
to meet the needs of West Virginians.
